About CHOW MANE

HIT BY CAR- friendly with staff per shelter and stable, but needs surgery (Rescue group to provide) DEVORE, CA, So Cal - SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY ANIMAL CARE - ID #A834315 'CHOW MANE', an ADORABLE, YOUNG CHOW X BOY EXPECTED TO BE ADDED TO EUTHANASIA LIST WHEN HE COMES OFF HIS STRAY HOLD ON OR ABOUT 12/16. He is Rescue only, but rescues need a foster home to save and have him recuperate at. Shelter says, 'A834315 Chowmane! This guy into the shelter yesterday as a stray from the Newberry Springs area after a call came in reporting that that he was hit by a car and assumed to be deceased. Fortunately, he is doing ok but does have a fractured left humerus and is rescue only due to the prolonged recovery of the fracture. Medical notes state 12/12/25 Vet: Fracture of left humerus. Rx: Amoxi/clav 500mg 1 BID x 10 days - Carprofen 100mg 1/2 BId x 10 days.' Chow Mane was taken to a local vet following animal control responding to the call and finding him actually alive, and did xrays and prescribed pain medicine. He has been estimated to be 2 years old, and he has a beautiful brindle coat and fluffy tail. With surgery, his prognosis is good, and he could live a wonderful, long life. We believe he may be related to Hershey, an almost identical looking chow mix who was found as a stray and ended up at this same shelter about 45 days ago and was estimated to be the same age. Hershey was rescued and has a wonderful disposition (friendly with all dogs, people and even cats) and ahs already found his forever home. Chow Mane is shown in video we just obtained with a similar gentle and sweet disposition. Unfortunately, Chow Mane has already been made 'Rescue only' though, meaning only a rescue group can pull him out of the shelter (he cannot be adopted directly from the shelter at this time ( you need to go through a rescue group to save him). However, rescues need fosters and a place for a dog to go. We need a foster right now (can even be short term), as well as longer term and post surgery so he can recuperate. Any foster likely needs to be local or local enough to a willing rescue, unless a longer foster may want to also adopt. Rescue groups also need pledges for his medical since surgery will ne expemsive. Therefore, we are desperately looking for a chow savvy home, or foster and or rescue to save Chow Mane in time.
