URGENT FLAKE NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTER NOW . We are absolutely crushed to share this. Flake had an euthanasia command at the shelter. We thought we got to him in time - we thought he was safe. But the adopter who stepped up has just backed out, citing a family tragedy. And now, once again, we are left with no place to put a dog we just fought to save. Two weeks before Christmas. No backup foster. No extra space. No extra resources. This keeps happening over and over again, no matter how carefully we screen, how many hours we spend interviewing, how many checks we run. And people still ask, 'Why aren't more rescues pulling?' This is why. Because when someone bails, the dog loses everything. Flake is only 2 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He came in as a stray, so there isn't much known about his behavior outside the shelter. On his second day there, he barked at a female helper dog and avoided - but there are no notes of dog reactivity. There is potential he could live with other dogs in the future, but he needs time to decompress, and we can't guarantee compatibility. A separation plan may be necessary at first, or possibly long-term. What we can guarantee is that Flake is out of time. He was out of time days ago. The only thing keeping him safe was a commitment - and that commitment disappeared. Every time someone changes their mind, a dog's life hangs in the balance. And we can't pull Flake without a foster or adopter ready to take him. Our hold is released. Our hands are tied. Our hearts are breaking for him. If you can help Flake - even temporarily - apply NOW. This truly is life or death. Can text Kat 516 457-3678 Apply at AmsterDog.org Call/text 917-689-8414 [email protected] Please share. Please step up if you can.
