Once he did start feeling more comfortable with our company, he'd still flinch at any unexpected touch. After a few days of patient, loving ministrations from staff and volunteers, however, Boomer has relaxed and is now very loving with all the new friends he's making. And no more flinching. What caused Boomer such anxiety is unknown; he's got some mysterious little scars on his face and head, perhaps related or perhaps not. Regardless of his past misadventures, his sweet temper remains intact. In fact, Boomer is a huge hugger. He'll lean firmly into his handler's legs, even nestling in between their feet when they stop walking in order to maximize dog/human contact zones. He now invites as many pets and scritches as he can get. Fair warning, he does jump up for attention, full-body hugs, and lap time. Perhaps a velcro dog in the making? We'll work to discourage the jumping, but a home with older children may be best, though Plotts are typically excellent with and protective of children. Boomer is very food motivated, which will help in his training. We'd guess he will bond deeply when he lands with a new family. When introducing Boomer to other dogs, we found him to be excited to meet both males and females. He likes the ladies, especially, but is friendly with males who are friendly with him. The couple of males who were grouchy in his face received a low warning growl back, Boomer did not freak out at their rudeness and has been responsive to correction from handlers.
