About Petunia

Adoption Fee: $300
Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

I'm looking for a new home for Petunia, a 3-year-old, ~50lb, spayed English Bulldog. She just isn't getting the love, attention, and exercise she needs in my home. I am only willing to consider rehoming with a household that has no young children or only older children (aged 6+). She has not been socialized around young/small children and seems to think of them as dogs. She is not aggressive toward them (no biting/snarling) but she does lunge or pull toward them and has knocked over our friend's toddler. Preference for a home with breed experience or at least able of conveying knowledge about the breed's special needs/concerns. Must be willing to show home to myself in person or on Facetime and/or proof of employment or income. Bio: She lives with another English Bulldog (age 9), and previously lived with a cat. She gets along with all other dogs. When we had a cat, she would wrestle with it or annoy the cat, but she did not seem to want to hurt it. She would probably do best in a home without a cat. She is basically housetrained but she has accidents that are likely related to not taking her out frequently enough (which seems to need to be every 4 hours) and/or behavioral issues. She will not urinate in her crate, but she will urinate on rugs and defecate on the floor. I am looking to rehome her after almost three years of doing everything I could to make this work. When I first got her, I didn't anticipate how much exercise and stimulation she would really need given her breed. She has far more energy than I expected, and with my demanding job and lifestyle, I'm not able to give her the consistent activity and training she deserves. My partner is in law school, and together we simply don't have the time or flexibility to meet her needs. She also has some behavioral issues around children, and despite a lot of effort, she continues to have accidents in the home, which my partner believes are a result of anxiety-related boredom. I understand that this is very frustrating for my partner, and it's a sign that our current environment just isn't the right fit for her. This has been a really difficult decision for me. I care about her deeply, but I want her to be in a home where she can truly thrive-somewhere with more time, more structure, and ideally a backyard where she can get the exercise and space she needs. My hope is that she'll be happier, healthier, and better supported in a home that's a better match for her energy and temperament. She is a very affectionate dog that loves to be cuddled and loves to play 'keep away' with her ball and tug-of-war. She would thrive in a home with older children or people able to play with her daily.
