TOBY was rescued from a high-kill pound in North Carolina as a puppy only to end up in a cruel boarding facility for more than a year, where he was forgotten, neglected, and as we later learned, even abused. At only a little over a year old, TOBY has had a hard life but his spirit has not been broken and he longs to trust people. We are looking for a rescue-oriented foster or adopter who is experienced with traumatized dogs to help bring TOBY out of his shell and give him the love and kindness that he has always deserved but never received in his entire life. The good news is that TOBY is not aggressive and has no bite history. TOBY is rather extremely timid and avoids people and withdraws from new situations which frighten him. TOBY is a gentle dog who has allowed children to pet him, and poses no danger to kids though he remains fearful of them. TOBY is only happy when he is around other dogs. TOBY trusts animals, even cats, but fears all people, although he does warm up to those who are consistently kind and patient with him. Perhaps a retired couple that has the time to spend with him at home could help build his confidence. TOBY would need a fenced yard to run, play and explore, which he loves to do with other dogs. TOBY has no adoption fee, and his rescuers will transport him to any loving home in the USA for free. And we will also cover the cost of his neuter.
