Maverick is my long-haired AKC German Shepherd who turns 1 on December 20th. He is a cuddle bug, a people-lover, and one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. He melts into you, wants to be touching you, and has such a loving, affectionate personality. He bonds deeply with his person and wants nothing more than to be someone's companion. His Training & Skills I've put an enormous amount of work and professional-level training into him. He is very obedient and incredibly smart. He knows: %BD' Place %BD' Sit %BD' Down %BD' Loose leash walking %BD' Heads-up heel %BD' Distance commands %BD' Guard %BD' Circle %BD' Reliable recall He is fully e-collar trained and works beautifully on it. He has also done personal protection foundation training and showed natural talent - confident, responsive, and highly engaged. This dog is smart, capable, willing, and absolutely loves to work. Why I'm Rehoming Him This decision is not coming from lack of effort or love - it's coming from honesty and responsibility. Maverick has become reactive toward other dogs, and although it often presents as fear-based reactivity, he has also gone after two of my personal dogs, including my Aussie. Because of this, he needs to be an only dog in his next home. He cannot safely live with other dogs, and I will not place him in a multi-dog household. He also does not like peeing in a kennel, and the stress from crating can make him anxious. For this reason, he does best free roaming in the house. Under veterinary guidance, he is currently on fluoxetine to help manage his reactivity and anxiety. It has helped him, and the new home will need to be comfortable continuing his medication and working with their vet as needed. What Maverick Needs %BD%9D%A4%BD%BD%8F A no-pet household This is non-negotiable. He needs to be the only dog. %BD%BD An experienced handler Preferably someone with shepherd, working-line, or behavior experience. Someone confident, structured, patient, and calm. %BD%BD%BDs Consistent training & clear communication He thrives with structure and mental stimulation. He loves training and working with his person. %BD%BD%8F%BD A home where he can free roam He becomes stressed when crated for long periods and prefers being out in the house. %BD%BD%BD Someone who wants a loyal companion Because that's what he is at his core - loyal, loving, affectionate, and deeply bonded. His Strengths %BD' Extremely smart and obedient %BD' Loves people - affectionate, cuddly, and gentle %BD' Free-roam house manners %BD' High training drive %BD' Personal protection foundation %BD' E-collar trained %BD' Loyal and deeply connected to his person His Challenges %BD' Dog reactive %BD' Has gone after my own dogs (must be the only dog) %BD' Fear-based reactivity around unfamiliar dogs %BD' Kennel stress and won't pee in a kennel %BD' On fluoxetine to help regulate his anxiety %BD%BD%BD Maverick is not a bad dog. He is a young, highly intelligent shepherd who needs the right environment and handler. With the right person, he will be the most loving, loyal, affectionate partner. I will be extremely selective - he is not going to 'just anyone.' He deserves a home that truly understands him, his needs, and his potential.
