About Taco

Taco is a 22 month old Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog/A little bit of everything mix (and we can share the DNA report for more detail). He is high energy and he loves to play. Taco is super smart and knows many commands including sit, stay, shake, touch, down and more. He is an excellent loose-leash walker and can run alongside a bike comfortably! He is potty and crate trained. Taco loves other dogs, but is wary of new people. Taco is strongly territorial of his homw and does not tolerate unfamiliar visitors in his space. He has shown escalating protective behavior including growling, teeth baring, and threatening postures toward houseguests - even while on anxiety medication prescribed by our vet. Additionally, Taco sometimes bark/howls at random people during walks or at the dog park with no discernible pattern.Once he decides that he likes you, he is super sweet and wants to snuggle up against you. We think Taco would do best in a home with someone who has time and energy to give him the activity level that he needs. He would benefit from an experienced dog owner who has experience with reactivity and herding breeds. He would benefit from a home with no or older children. Taco would do well with someone who has a quiet, predictable lifestyle without frequent visitors or houseguests. He would love to have other pups to play with, but has never been around cats. We love Taco and don't make this decision lightly. He needs more time and attention than we can give him (if we knew he was part cattle dog when we adopted him, we would not have chosen him, as we did not want such a high energy breed. The rescue thought he was Chihuahua/Corgi). This combined with allergies that have developed leads us to rehoming. Taco is up to date on vaccinations and is neutered. We will provide all medical records and detailed information about his training, behavior, and needs to help him succeed in his new home. We are also happy to pass along his crate, bed, and other items. While we are asking a rehoming fee to ensure a good placement, we will donate this money to a rescue.
