Chow Chow / Pit Bull

Goldie is a sweet, loyal, intelligent girl. She is an absolute ray of sunshine and will warm your heart. We got her as an 8 month old pup and she's just turned 2 (65 lbs). She has made incredible progress from the terrified puppy she was. She has blossomed into a loving, joyful young dog. But she needs someone who can give her strong, gentle, loving leadership that makes her feel calm and safe. We thought she was a traumatized lab mix when we got her, but we found out she's a traumatized chow chow mix with some pittie. We want to be clear and honest about her challenges (but there's lots of good stuff if you keep reading). We have worked with two experienced trainers. She still bit two professional dog walkers. We can't trust her around our son's friends although she's never done more than bark & growl. She really, really loves to play outside with her dog friends. But inside houses with other dogs, she turned from calm to aggressive in a flash due to mis-directed protectiveness and resource guarding. She barks and growls aggressively when people come to the house. She can't fully settle and will growl when guests move around the house. Goldie is a different dog with people who project calm, patient, strong energy. She becomes relaxed and obedient. It is heart-wrenching for us to find a new family for her, but we don't want her to suffer the consequences if she injures a person or dog. Goldie will be such a good dog for someone who has experience with this type of dog! Your heart will explode when you see her being joyful and brave, feeling truly relaxed, or coming to you for those rare snuggles. She loves both going on adventures and being a couch potato. She loves sliding herself down the hill in the snow and needs to be kept cool in the summer. She is fully house trained, can be left free alone in the house but also crate trained, pretty good on a leash, and knows a lot of commands. She has short hair that dirt just slides off of. She is a guard dog who will protect you from bears, UPS deliveries, and chipmunks. We have addressed health concerns she had when we got her but there is a chance she might need vet care in the future. We really want to find the right home for Goldie. She's a little darling who can bring so much love into your life. If you would like to know more about Goldie and her story, please contact us.
