Ivy is currently in a foster home; here's what her foster dad tells us: 'Ivy is attached and snuggly. She is very treat motivated. She is always up for a meal and could benefit from a slow feeder. She has a lot of energy and loves to play. She will self-entertain with toys but prefers to play with other dogs. She is a shepherd/ husky mix with traits from both breeds present. That said, she leans heavier to the shepherd side of the scale. She is not a runner, respects fences and will stick with you. She is not overly vocal unless she wants something. Demand barking is an issue, but we are working on it. We are also working on house breaking and riding in the car. She is making fast improvement on the car rides. I have seen her act with some guard dog behaviors, growling and barking when she is approached by something or someone she does not know. However, she has never shown teeth, offered to bite, or been aggressive toward any person. Ivy lacks confidence. She is shy and apprehensive about every new experience. When frightened she will pee and cower. She needs a gentle hand and soft approach. She is very good on leash when she is walked by herself. When coupled with another dog she is all over the place. She will bump into them, then go check out the trees, then come ask for a treat. She has a little ADD, but what I would consider normal for a 6-month-old. She does not have much of a prey drive. She did discover the cats and is interested in them. She is very easily redirected and called off. She will climb the furniture, steal shoes, open closed doors and raid the garbage. I consider these to be regular puppy related issues and have no doubt she can be corrected easily. Discipline should be minimal. This is a 'soft' dog. Work from home and an active lifestyle are preferred, but she could do ok with another active dog and just a moderate lifestyle. She could be ok as an only dog if she is with her people all the time and they are very active. Ivy is going to be a big girl. I would guess 70+ lbs when she is done growing and fills out. She accepts any kind of handling and shows no resource guarding. We are crating her at night and she has been doing well.' https://clatsopcounty.animalshelternet.com/adoption_animal_details.cfm?AnimalUID=343572 Pet meet and greets are by appointment, so if you'd like to meet Ivy, call the shelter at 503-861-7387 or stop by the lobby to set up a time.
