The Davis County shelter reached out to us for help as these puppies have had no interest. The shelter told us puppies are the siblings who are now 8-9 months old, 'came to us along with half a dozen Chow Chow dogs last week and we received two litters of young pups earlier this summer from the same owner. His owner kind of lost control of his intact adult chow chows. The dogs are all fine with each other. All of them are decent in playgroup. Occasionally there is normal beef while they work things out but no fights, nothing concerning at all. Mostly they prefer to be on the fringes of the playing, occasionally entering for short stints. Tolerant is a good descriptor. Throws play bows here and there, will sometimes join in a group run across the yard. Nothing rough or rowdy. All of the chows need slow movements when you first approach them.' We are therefore recommending prior chow experience. While most of these dogs and puppies have now been placed, Rocco is still available, likely due to some potential medical, and his brother Hank, who had to have his head partially shaved (and thus gets overlooked, even though fur grows back). We are looking for either responsible adopters, or fosters and rescues for each pup, they do not need to go together. Rocco has since warmed up and may now be adopted with a medical waiver requiring a new home to seek medical attention for mild entropion. Previously, the shelter said he is 'still a little grumbly and suspicious. He flinches a lot but has no defense reactions. Our trainer says Rocco is the most uncomfortable of the group of chows. His previous owner says he's good with people and kids but as of now, we are recommending him to a home with no younger children. He will need significant time to acclimate to a new home. He is head shy, and he quivers a lot during handling. He's quite terrified. He has done well in playgroup, bounces around a little with some dogs, sniffs and then ignores others.' They also noted , 'the owner told us he has a history of joint issues/arthritis, we put him on cosequin. We haven't seen any indication of joint pain or problems. Minor entropion, his eyes aren't bad at all, but it will need to be addressed in the long run. He was also discontinued from taking trazodone over a week ago.' A rescue could assist with necessary entropion treatment. We have additional pictures and videos from the shelter which will be posted online.
