About Winston

Hi! My name is Winston! I am a 5 year old F1B Bernedoodle - even though I got more of that golden poodle coloring than the Berner tricolor - and because of the more poodle I really don't shed and I am trying to find my furever home. The good: I did some training before and did really well with it, but it's been super hard for my family to keep up with since they have a whole farm they're trying to keep in order, and three kids to boot, so I'm a little rusty on my skills. I do remember some of it and if you just give me a little help and understanding I'm sure I can remember the rest and be the best. I'm also crate trained and trained to an electric fence - so you don't have to do that, either! The bad: I'm not a farm dog. I want to be, and I really wanted to help out, but I just didn't know how to be the best farm dog and I killed some of their chickens. I am really really sorry, though. I didn't know it was bad to do, but I just can't help myself. I want to be a duck dog like my poodle ancestors - but I unfortunately didn't inherit that soft mouth that would make me a good prospect. I also like to get your attention with my mouth, because I don't have hands and haven't really been taught any other way. I also have been known to chew up things I'm not supposed to when I'm alone and bored. Both of these things could probably be redirected to much better behaviors with consistent training but they just don't have the time here with their super busy schedules. The best: I'm a lovable oaf. I get along with everyone - kids and other dogs included. I have some outside cats here too that I don't mind or bother but haven't been tried with indoor cats that would be in my space a little more. I would do better with older kids because I do have a bit of that Bernese herding instinct that makes me want to keep the little ones all in a pile together - for their safety, of course, because in my mind they're just little furless sheep. My ideal home: A fun, active home where I can chill inside and hang out during the day with someone who works from home and go out adventuring with my family on nights and weekends. I like to explore and play, but most of all I like to cuddle and be loved on like any good doodle does. I'm also super-duper smart so someone who can keep up with my training and keep my mind busy so I don't get too bored would be better. I would probably do great with some doggy puzzles and busy toys like many other doodles, to keep my mind focused and my nervous chewing at bay. Older kids (10+) or teens would be nice, but a young and adventurous couple or even a single person who wouldn't leave me home alone all the time would be great too. I'm located in Westminster, Maryland but my current home would be willing to consider the right family elsewhere if needed.
