Poppy is a smart, playful, athletic, and curious 50lb one-year-old dog. She loves giving kisses. She has been through an obedience class and was able to learn some commands like sit/stay/come, but her energy level makes it difficult for her to focus sometimes. She has also learned some words/commands without us teaching them to her on purpose. She is very food-motivated, which has helped with training. That said, she doesn't resource guard, although she will act protective of her humans if she perceives someone as a threat. She has tried to eat toys or furniture on occasion so we have switched to giving her only tough toys like Kong and Benebone and worked on redirection. Poppy is currently on medication for her hyper-activity and reactivity. Sadly, we have cats and also a family member recently diagnosed with a health issue, that makes Poppy's energy and rough play too much for our family. We are hoping to re-home her soon so she doesn't make our family member's health issue worse. When Poppy has been able to run on a friend's farm and play with dogs her size she has been much less anxious, a lot happier, and more prone to take a rest. Poppy definitely needs a space to run, and another dog around her size to play with would help too. Poppy may not try to eat toys or need medication in the future as she matures, but adopter should follow up on these issues. Our teenagers have handled Poppy fine, but she should be kept separate from young children and smaller pets. Please help us find Poppy a new home and feel free to ask questions!
