Gus's journey started at Downey Animal Care Center, and it wasn't an easy one. He was just nine months old when he was surrendered-a baby who should've been learning the world, not losing his home. By eleven months, he was still sitting there, day after day, getting dangerously close to being euthanized simply because the shelter was out of space. But Gus's story didn't end in that kennel. A kind couple in Los Angeles saw him, chose him, and pulled him to safety. From there he spent a short time in Redondo Beach, and today he made his way down to San Diego to settle in with a new foster family-finally somewhere soft to land. And here's the incredible part: after everything he's been through-being abandoned, overlooked, shuffled from place to place-Gus is still nothing but love. He warms up fast, leans in gently for affection, and wants nothing more than to be close to his people. His spirit is bright. His heart is open. His joy comes through the moment you meet him. Gus is a big, joyful puppy with a gentle soul. He loves other dogs and would thrive with a playful companion his size (medium to large), or with an active person who enjoys walks, adventures, and letting him stretch those long legs. He's crate trained and even goes into his crate on his own when he needs a little 'reset'-it's his cozy safe spot. He rides beautifully in the car and would make the perfect adventure buddy or travel companion. He's fully vetted, neutered, healthy, and ready. Everyone who's spent time with him says the same thing: Gus is just a great dog. Sweet, grateful, loving, and still hopeful after everything he's endured. Now he just needs what he's waited far too long for-a forever home that won't let him go. Let's help Gus finally find the love, stability, and soft life he deserves. He's so ready.
