About Mickey

Adoption Fee: $450
Border Collie / Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

Mickey is a loving, high-energy pup located in Castaic, California, and his story is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. He was found as a stray next to his deceased companion, a young dog who didn't survive long enough for help to come. Mickey stayed by his friend's side until volunteers stepped in. Despite this trauma, he has remained one of the sweetest, most affectionate little souls you could ever meet. He's approximately 5-7 months old, around 25-35 pounds, and is most likely a Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mix - a 'Border Aussie.' He has the classic herding-dog temperament: smart, social, sensitive, and eager to bond. He isn't neutered yet, and his vaccinations are scheduled soon, but he appears healthy and bounced back quickly from the minor cuts he had when rescued. Mickey is extremely loving with everyone - men, women, kids, and strangers alike. He does wonderfully with children and loves to play, though because he's still a bouncy, energetic puppy, he's better suited for families with school-aged children rather than infants or toddlers he might accidentally knock over. His temperament is very submissive, gentle, and people-oriented. He's also fantastic with other animals. He seems to love every dog he meets and lives peacefully with a cat in his foster home. He has shown no signs of aggression, resource guarding, or fearfulness. He barks a little when his foster leaves the house, but he settles down quickly and adjusts to routine well. He spends his days playing in the yard, practicing crate time, and learning basic manners indoors. Mickey knows 'sit' and understands 'bring it' during ball play, and he's eager to learn more. He's a fast, enthusiastic learner with a big heart and a bigger desire to make his people happy. This boy has so much potential in the right home. He will thrive in an active household - a family that enjoys walks, hiking, running, playing fetch, or simply giving a young herding dog the physical and mental stimulation he craves. Apartments are not an ideal fit for him, and he should be supervised around very young children simply because of his excited puppy energy. Mickey kisses everyone he meets, loves to fetch the ball, and has a joyful spirit that lights up the whole yard. After surviving such an unfair beginning, he is ready for a loving home where he will finally be safe, cherished, and adored. If you're interested, go to diggs4dogs.com and fill out an application.
