Bourbon is a sweet young hound mix who is great with people and other dogs. He is somewhat submissive with other dogs, loves to play and is learning to walk on a lead. He is scheduled for neuter on November 24 and will have his second DHLPP vaccination at that time--he has already had rabies and bordatella. Bourbon was always outside but we are now crating him indoors at night and he is doing great with that. He will need to have some house manner training as he is mostly confined indoors as his foster home has 4 other dogs, including one of his sisters. Her genetic profile indicated 62% hound (Coonhound, Catahoula, Plott, Foxhound) and 28% herding dog (mostly Australian Cattle Dog), along with less than 10% St. Bernard. His is likely similar as they look very much alike although he is a bit smaller. Right now he is between 40 and 50 lbs, but will likely gain more as he matures (he is about 9-10 months old). Bourbon likes to use his nose and could be a good tracker with the right training. He will be an excellent family dog given the right environment. He will do best with at least one other dog or with people who are around a lot as his hound temperament makes him very social. Yes, he can sound like a hound, but he is not inordinately noisy except when left alone in a new environment and sometimes during play. Note: as his foster family, we would keep him except we are already overloaded with young dogs at the moment!
