It is with a very heavy heart that I am looking for a new home for my beloved dog, Gremlin (we call him Grimm or Brat). He will be 5 years old on November 17th. I am pregnant, and while I love him more than anything, I need to prioritize the safety of my baby. Rehoming him is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Gremlin is an intelligent, loyal, and active Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler). He knows several tricks, trained to walk by a shopping cart, and is a fantastic hiking and outdoor companion. He loves swimming, playing with Frisbees and balls, and spending time with the people he trusts. He is crate trained, sleeps in bed with me, and enjoys cuddling-but only on his terms. He has high energy but also enjoys relaxing on the couch when he chooses. Personality and behavior: Gremlin can be reactive. He does not do well with multiple dogs, men, or fast movement. He does have a pee drove but has never caught anything. He has bitten in the past when feeling threatened, overly touched and displays resource guarding. He has severe separation anxiety from me and is deeply attached to his person. He is not very touchy and prefers affection only on his terms. He communicates clearly when he wants space: he gives whale eyes, bares his teeth or low growls, leans back, and lifts a front leg. He barks often-both as a warning and during play. He does not enjoy baths, nail trims, or trips to the vet, and is always muzzled at the vet for safety. Ideal home: A single adult, preferably a woman, with no children. Plenty of space to run and play, ideally a farm or large yard. Experienced, patient owners who can provide structure, consistency, and understanding. Gremlin is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and continues training. He will go to his new home with his crate, food and water dishes, favorite toys, treats, and something that smells like us to help him adjust. I only want the very best home for Gremlin because I don't want him to get hurt or scared. I strongly recommend that anyone interested meet him first so you can see his personality and energy in person. He has been my little shadow since he was a puppy, and rehoming him is gut-wrenching. He has also built a special bond with my boyfriend, who will miss him deeply. Gremlin deserves a loving, patient home where he can thrive safely and happily.
