About Layka

Meet Layka !! She is NOT A 'DOODLE' she's full standard poodle so she should be the actually hypoallergenic dog that many are looking for. This beautiful girl came to us in very rough shape. Dirty, matted, skin and ear infections, covered in fleas, and shy due to lack of socialization. She's been cleaned up and is on the path to a happy life now. Layka is 3 year old, Standard Poodle. She currently weighs 48 pounds. Poodles are typically non shedding and hypoallergenic as 'doodles' are not. If you want an awesome dog with those qualities then don't miss out on her! She will be spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative negative and on monthly preventions. *** Huge thank you to Pawpular Pets in Yorktown for donating her grooming. They have been a huge blessing to our rescue dogs lately!! *** Layka is a very sweet girl. She's shy due to not being show things to experience and learn. She's really doing well with all the changes and new things we've been exposing her to. She was very well behaved for the groomer and we can tell she feels so much better now. She has done well with other dogs of all sizes. She is also fine to be the only dog. She's fostered with cats and is interested in them but has not tried to harm them. She's been great with kids. Despite her being afraid at times she's never been aggressive. Layka is still working on her house manners. She was anxious on car rides at first but didn't get sick or jump in on her own. We've taken a few rides with her and on the last one she did get in on her own and seemed calmer. She is leash trained but can be a bit panicked at times. She will sort of zig zag around and pull a bit then stop. Overall she's fairly gentle with it when she's not afraid. Her potty training is going well. She's had a few accidents if left to roam the house alone. She has no accidents in her crate. She is crate trained but you have to give her a little push to go in. She can also be vocal in the crate if she can't see you. She's getting better but not perfect yet. So far she has a medium energy level. She will likely become more active as she gains confidence. She will need lots of mental and physical exercise in her new home to keep her happy and well behaved. Poodles are very intelligent and typically higher energy dogs so plan to exercise each and every day. She is very cuddly and loving as well. Layka can and will jump a short fence. She needs a fence that is at least 6ft tall to contain her. She is also scared and nervous at first. She needs a fenced yard to potty in while she gets used to you. She won't go while leashed when she's scared. When she first gets to a new place she will run from you outside. Having her drag a long leash for the first few days so you can catch her is recommended. She has not had any issues sharing food, treats, or toys with people or other animals. She listens fairly well inside and seems to be a smart girl. Once she's warmed up and feels safe with you, she will sit or lay by your side and enjoy some belly rubs and ear scratches. If you're willing to be patient with her while she learns and regains confidence you'll be getting an amazing dog. She just needs a family willing to put some work into her to receive the reward of an amazing dog. ��|��%8F��|��%8FShe will need regular grooming. This requires time to get her to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt her.��|��%8F��|��%8F Vet and home checks required. Fenced yard 6ft or higher due to her fear and escape risk. Located in Hampton VA.
