About Hutch

Hutch is a young Australian Shepherd located in Coarsegold, California, and he has survived more neglect than any dog ever should, yet somehow kept his joy, his hope, and his love for people. When his original family moved away, they left him behind in the backyard. The new tenants tried to force him out, but Hutch cried and cried, so they eventually stopped pushing him away and allowed him to stay. Unfortunately, what he stayed in wasn't much of a home. The yard was nothing but dirt. No doghouse. No toys. No affection. No attention. No one ever talked to him, touched him, played with him, or cared for him. He survived, but he never truly lived. When Hutch arrived at our ranch, his reaction said everything. The moment he realized people were going to be kind to him, his whole body started wiggling - not just his tail, not just his butt, but his entire little soul. He was so overwhelmed with happiness that he practically vibrated, and controlling that happy wiggle is still a work in progress. After a lifetime of being ignored, he cannot believe humans want to pet him, talk to him, and love him. It's the sweetest thing you'll ever see. Hutch is likely between one and two years old, with that goofy, clumsy, grateful puppy energy. He loves every dog he meets and has done beautifully with all the dogs at the ranch. He plays, he runs, he celebrates life with his whole heart. To him, everything is new and everything is wonderful - companionship, safety, kindness, even something as simple as being talked to. He's making up for lost time, and he's doing it with joy. He has now been neutered and vetted. He goes into his kennel easily and is learning structure quickly - he wants very much to please his person. Because he's never lived inside a home, he is currently being introduced to potty training and crate training, and he's catching on. He has not had leash training yet, and we don't know how he is with cats, but he's endlessly sweet and eager to learn. Hutch deserves a family that will give him the love he's never had - someone patient, someone gentle, someone who understands the beauty of giving a dog his first real home.
