Piper is a Pharaoh Hound-Pit Bull mix as far as we can tell and came from an abusive family. She was both caged and chained within the cage in a confined area where she could barely turn around. She was fed table scraps if she was fed anything at all and was starved to the point that she had no choice but to consume her own poo to stay alive. What little water she had was muddy and not drinkable. It was only by the Grace of God, we were able to convince the family to turn Piper over to us. Fast forward to today and you are looking at one of the most affectionate, healthy animals who loves everybody. We were unable to keep Piper at our home due to space constraints (along with 5 cats). We were put in contact with an absolutely wonderful, caring couple (God send no doubt) who was aware of the conditions Piper was living under. They agreed to foster her in a great, fenced in area with room to roam as shown in the photos until we could get her fattened up and healthy. Piper is crate trained and weights approximately 35 pounds and will not get any larger. She is a high energy dog and would be great with kids. Piper is a hugger and would make a great indoor family dog. She does not like thunder, gun shots or fireworks. The photos make her look much bigger than she is in person. Piper is leashed and house trained. We visit Piper and walk her often. She has been spayed and is up to date on vaccines and dewormed. She loves to play keep away with her toys. She seems to be good with other dogs, but we are not certain how she would be with cats since she has never been exposed to them. Piper loves to chew on her toys and carry them around. Piper will need some training with basic commands (sit, stay, she knows what come means, down, leave it, etc.), but she is a smart baby and picks things up quickly with positive reinforcement. The current fosters are having severe health issues that is making it difficult for them to keep and maintain Piper's upkeep and we are not having any luck finding a forever home in the Hickory or surrounding NC area. Because of what she has been through, we vet and verify any potential new owners. Piper is a resilient survivor and deserves the very best!
