About Fish

Fish is a 1 to 2-year-old, 25-pound terrier mix with a calm, steady personality. He's quiet, affectionate, and enjoys staying close to people. He knows basic commands like sit and lay down, and we're working on leash training. He appears to be housebroken. We haven't had any accidents, and he follows the cues of our other dog for when to go out. Fish gets along well with other dogs and should do fine around children. He sleeps well in his crate, is vaccinated, healthy, and ready for a permanent home. I met Fish while backpacking through the Appalachian Foothills. A short way down the trail, I realized I was being followed by a small, quiet dog who was curious and calm. I looked for his owner at the nearest trailhead, but no one was around. Fish decided to keep walking with me. He stayed with me for many miles until we reached my campsite. We sat by the river and shared my dinner and the last of my snacks. When the temperature dropped and I wasn't sure what to do with him, he climbed into my tent, curled up inside my sleeping bag, and went right to sleep. In the morning, he stretched while I made coffee. We continued down the trail, and when we reached my truck later that day, he jumped into the passenger seat without hesitation. I started calling him Fish because he found me near the fish hatchery. The local animal services believe he may have been abandoned near the end of an old forest road. Despite that, Fish has remained trusting, calm, and gentle. He's ready for a home where he can belong for good.
