Meet Kiko - 5 year old Vizsla + Dogo Argentino Mix We've been looking for a new home for Kiko on and off for a while, and are desperate to keep this good boy out of a rescue or Humane Society - a last-ditch effort to re-home him 'home to home' before our baby is born in December. Kiko is an e-collar trained, crate-trained Vizsla-Dogo Argentino mix who is wonderful off-leash and super velcro lovey with his folks. He's been such a wonderful companion for me as a hiking buddy and safety companion on the trail, as well as a snuggle bug in the home, but with our life changing the past few years, he's not set up for success in our small *new* home life. He initially came to me as a re-homed puppy at almost 12 months old when I was living on 70 acres, worked from home and was single. He's now almost 5-years-old and I've married into a family with another male dog (who will reactively trigger fights with Kiko), as well as a young step-daughter with lots of friends, and a much smaller home with no fenced-in backyard. Our home is just too small for both large dogs, an infant on the way, our preteen daughter and her friends, as well as ourselves! Kiko needs more space and time with a real partner who wants to exercise and be outside alongside him but, at home, to soak up all of his love individually. Like I mentioned above, he's e-collar trained, crate trained and has obedience training down. One of the only and main issues that I haven't been able to succeed in with him is his reactivity inside of our home with anyone who isn't myself, my husband or our daughter. For the past three years, we've been working on behavior modification in our home life with little to no success. While it does seem to get better with specific people who are consistent visitors, the behavior hasn't improved over time. When we crate him, he still barks and growls at visitors. I've tried to tether him to a 'place' rather than stick him in his crate or place him behind a baby gate, and yet, no improvement. Unfortunately, we just don't have the capacity to continue to try to train this reactivity out of him with visitors in our home, nor do we have the space to keep him in a safe, separate space (outside of his crate which is in our living room). We had a potential new home lined up for him with someone who had previously owned a male Doberman, was willing to run him daily and wanted to train him for scent detection work, but that fell through. Kiko would be perfect for an experienced high-energy, power-breed dog owner - best without kiddos or other male dogs. He needs space to run at home and/or an owner willing to thoroughly exercise him daily. Please help us by keeping him in mind incase you know of anyone who would meet him with the love that he deserves - we're open to not just adoption, but a foster home if necessary while we continue to search. We do not have an adoption fee, and he comes with loads of great tools and supplies including a Dogtra e-collar for obedience and recall, as well as a Dogtra GPS fence collar and a Diggs Evolv dog crate. Happy to answer any and all questions. I've attached our flyer for some more information! Here's a few videos of our guy. We're located in Calaveras County - near Murphys, CA - if you'd like to visit him!
