Courtesy Posting: CODE RED AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5153654 -'MAYLO' AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- RESCUE ONLY (NHO) - NEEDS FOSTER(s) TOO AS RESCUES CANNOT HELP WITHOUT A FOSTER. NOW SHY AT SHELTER AND MADE RESCUE ONLY! NOW ON DEADLINE FOR 11/11 TO COMMIT OR 'May be at risk for euthanasia 11/13/25 or sooner if warranted' per shelter. THUS, HE WILL LIKELY BE EUTHANIZED 11/12 in AM. HE IS 'RESCUE ONLY' BY A 'NEW HOPE PARTNER ONLY' which means he can NOT be adopted from the shelter directly, and New Hope partner must pull him out. Emergency/soon to be euthanized! We are in urgent need of finding a chow savvy foster, or at least a foster familiar with chows or similar Asian or spitz breeds. 'MAYLO' is a stunning male chow weighing 53 lbs and said to be only 1.5 years old who was surrendered with a female chow friend named Amina who is adoptable though. The two chows may have been used to breed as the female looks like she has recently had puppies and very underweight at only 36 lbs. However, owner surrender notes give the excuse that she could not keep the dogs due to her housing situation, and further state, 'THE TWO CHOW CHOWS BEING SURRENDERED TO THE SHELTER TODAY AND THEY ALSO LIVE WITH AN AKITA. OWNER STATES THAT ALL DOGS GET ALONG VERY WELL TOGETHER, EXCEPT FOR WHEN THEY EAT, THEY MUST BE FED SEPERATELY. OWNER STATES THAT SHE TAKES BOTH DOGS TO THE PLAY YARD AND THEY GET ALONG WELL WITH OTHER DOGS. THE MALE DOG IS VERY PLAYFUL, WHILE THE FEMALE DOG IS A LITTLE MORE STANDOFFISH. OWNER STATES THAT THE FEMALE DOG MAY BE MORE PRONE TO HAVE DOG TO DOG AGGRESSION DUE TO HER BEHAVIOR OF BEING A LITTLE STANDOFFISH, BUT THE MALE DOG IS FINE.' They are recommended for 'ADULTS ONLY, NO SMALL KIDS. OWNER HAS NEVER HAD THESE DOGS AROUND ANY SMALL CHILDREN, SO SHE IS NOT AWARE OF WHAT THEIR BEHAVIOR WOULD BE AROUND KIDS. OWNER STATES THAT BOTH DOGS INITIALLY BARKS AT STRANGERS, BUT THEN THEY SETTLE DOWN AND CAN BE EASILY RE-DIRECTED.' She further stated they have not shown aggression to people and were inside dogs who are potty trained. Additional behavior and medical details may be found on this link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/priority/Details/OTI3-NjU3-NzJB Sadly, because Maylo was a little shy as is so common for the breed, the shelter made him Rescue Only and put him on a short deadline of 11/11. However, a volunteer met him and provided us wonderful videos of him gently taking treats and said, 'By the time I left anytime I passed his kennel he came out with his tail wagging or would just be sitting waiting and watching. Not a peep.' We are therefore looking for ideally a foster or foster to adopt Maylo who has some chow, Asian or spitz breed experience. His female friend Amina is adoptable currently, but may also be soon at risk like Maylo is. She is not Rescue only so you may contact the shelter directly for her and this is Amina's link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A5153651 If you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for his rescue), please email: [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, AND also fill out a foster application on https://dogfoster.org/ so both entities can work on pairing a foster to a rescue group to help. Rescues can assist with neuter and medical. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at: [email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387 and providing ID.
