Adoption Fee: $325
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Who's this handsome Boi you ask? Meet Tommy! Tommy Boi is deaf, visually impaired, approximately 3 year old, 60 pound Aussie/Nordic Breed (Spitz-type pup) mix. Tommy had a hard start in life, but under the loving care of a very experienced Foster Mom, Tommy has become an active, spirited pup who loves to please his People! Early days: Tommy came to ASA from another rescue. We know he must have endured some trials. As a young pup, he had to have an outgrown nylon collar surgically removed from his neck. Little Tommy also had to have some physical therapy as a result of being stuck in a cramped crate for most of his early days. Foster Home: Tommy has spent time under the loving eye of his Foster Mom. Foster Mom has had many deaf and vision impaired pups in her care over many years. She has worked with Tommy to overcome his past. Now, Tommy is a very confident, secure dog who loves positive attention. The responsive and smart pup responds well to hand signals and is excellent on lead. The Boi enjoys toys and pets. He eats in his crate and finds it a safe place to night-night and when his Foster folks are away. Tommy spends his days with hanging out with other resident canines. Forever Home: Tommy Boi is looking for the Home of His Own. His Person should have some dog experience and be eager to communicate with the pup. Tommy's lively personality leads him to occasionally try to be Boi Boss-possessive of his person and thinking he knows best. No way Son. His loving Person will have no problem letting Tommy know they know best and set clear boundaries. A fence is preferred, but may not be needed with the right 'me and my dog' hands-on Person. Tommy hasn't been around many children but will do well with dog savvy kids, perhaps 8 and up. Adopting Tommy: If you are home often during the day and are looking for a canine companion, consider Tommy. Potential Adopters have experience with deafies or educated themselves on the perks, quirks and particular needs of a these special dogs before filling out an Adoption Application. The rescue is happy to provide further information and help after receipt of an application. Tommy's Foster will be available to guide his approved adopter and help with his acclimation to his Forever Home. 'Can I adopt a deafie?': Absolutely, if you want a by your side pup who thrives in routines. If you can teach a hearing dog verbal and visual commands, you can certainly learn how to communicate with Tommy. He is waiting for the One who will enjoy having his company and being a hands-on Forever. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. Tommy bounded over to add, 'Let's get started on our life together, Forever!' Is Tommy your Bestest Boi? If so, fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter.
