In dire need of rehoming Whiskey Boy, our 7 y/o, 100 lbs. male, intact full blooded Bluetick Coonhound. He's a physically strong and strong-willed boy that needs more space than we can give him as we've recently moved back to the Bay Area from the Central Valley. He has his breed paperwork and comes from a lineage of prize dogs (I'm trying to locate his paperwork in these moving boxes and can have more info once I find them), and is up to date with vaccinations. The Good Whiskey Boy is crate trained, housebroken, and highly food motivated. He's full of energy and would thrive in an active household. He knows his basic commands-sit, down, and here/come. He's non-aggressive and great with family and friends, including small children. He's lived peacefully with another dog and would do well in a home with a canine companion or as part of a pack. With his intelligence and high drive, Whiskey has tons of potential for further training and becoming an exceptionally well-mannered working dog. He's not a humper either (whoo hoo!) The Ugly True to his Bluetick breed, Whiskey has a strong prey drive and loves to chase squirrels, cats, and anything small that moves. He'll be excited and probably jump up to greet you, and tends to bark for a few minutes until he's sure you mean no harm. He doesn't get along with my cats, so I don't think he'd start now (but maybe you'll prove me wrong). Loud noises like fireworks or banging make him anxious, and he'll seek shelter or want to be next to you (or on top of you %A0%8F). Also true to his breed, if he doesn't get enough exercise or stimulation, he can get bored and chew on things although I think that's pretty typical dog behavior. Whiskey needs space to explore, sniff, and burn off energy. Once he's had his fun, he's happy to relax in his crate (or snuggle up on the couch). He's a playful and curious companion-both independent and a total cuddle bug. He wouldn't do well in a shelter environment or in a Bay Area home where space is limited for most. It could work however with someone who's active and tires him out each day. Otherwise he needs a place where he can runabout safely and explore. We need to find something sooner than later otherwise he will need to be brought to a local surrender shelter. I'm absolutely dreading him being caged long term, day in and day out. It will really break his spirit. Please contact Sarah C. at (408) 470-9198 if you are interested in this beautiful boy. Feel free to text or leave a voicemail if I'm unable to answer.
