About Zeus

Hi there! I'm Zeus, a 20-month-old Black Lab, and let me tell you-I'm living my best life now! Things didn't start out so great, though. My people could not take care of me and I ended up at Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control. They ran out of open kennels and luckily I got pulled into rescue and went to a foster home. My foster family could tell right away that I wasn't feeling good. I was really underweight, and my tummy hurt all the time. After lots of vet visits and tests, we found out I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). My whole GI tract was inflamed-ouch! But once I got some medicine and the right special hydrolyzed food, I felt SO much better. Right now I eat a special diet, I might be able to return to regular food but we don't know for sure. My hydrolyzed protein food costs a bit more-but trust me, I'm worth every single bite. I also take B12 every week. That helps my body use my food so I keep gaining weight. Now that I'm healthy, my true personality shines through. My foster family says I'm 'Buddy the Elf in dog form' because I'm just that happy! I love people, I love to eat, I love to play with toys, and I REALLY love to chase balls. And walks? Oh boy, I live for walks! Need a hiking partner or a running buddy? I'm your guy. I've got plenty of energy and enthusiasm to keep up with any adventure you have in mind. At the end of a busy day, I'm all about cuddles. I'll curl up right next to you in bed and sleep peacefully all night. I just want to be close to my people-and if I can hop in the car to go along for the ride, even better! I get along great with other dogs and enjoy playing, but what I really want most is a family of my own to love. I'm a smart boy-I know 'sit' and 'stay,' I walk nicely on a leash, and I always do my business outside like a gentleman. I do need a physically fenced yard so I can safely chase balls, zoom around, and burn off some of my big Lab energy.
