About Cormack

Adoption Fee: $25
Saint Bernard / Bernese Mountain Dog
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Cormack is a 7yo Saint Bernard(50%) Bernese Mountain(25%) and Lab (25%) mix. Cormack is a sweet heart most of the time but he has certain behaviors that have made him increasingly unsafe around our 1 yo son and resulted in a few too close for comfort calls. He is fully house broken, food motivated and trainable, leash trained, and crate trained. We have a cat and another dog, he gets along with both just fine now and could go to a home with other cats and dogs. However, I would expect a transition period of getting him used to another K9 friend as he has an aggressve history with other dogs. Cormack's original owners were very clearly abusive to him and he has some less desirable learned behaviors as a result. Cormack is dog reactive. When he was first adopted, there were a few fights between him and our other dog Aurora. He has mellowed some with age though. We cautiously walk him in the neighborhood after observing that there are no other dogs out. He cannot go to a home with children younger than teenage years. If a younger child gets too close to him, he will display signs of defensiveness and if those signs are not respected, he will bark/growl/snap. He usually gives warning snaps but regardless, is not safe for kids. If a kid sneaks up on him, there will be no warnings. He is also very defensive at the vet but allows me to basket muzzle him at the beginning of appts. He takes Trazodone/Gabapentin/CBD gummies without issue. This boy loves food, cuddles, walks, laying in laps (despite being 130 lbs), and rolling in the grass. He enjoys tug of war and large sticks. He will protect and love his people. Corm does not get adequate attention as he has to be secluded from our son. We hope to find someone who can give him what he needs and the love he deserves.
