Copper is a 45 pound lovable Aussie who is fiercely loyal to his people. He was surrendered to our Rescue, because he didn't get along with the male boxer in his home. There are reasons for this though. He was the 3rd dog brought into the home and if you are a lover of Aussies, you know that Aussies have particular needs. Cooper just needs space. We have many acres for our rescue dogs, so it has been obvious that living in a neighborhood with a houseful of people and dogs was not working for him. He needs to be able to explore and be validated. We are disciplining him when he does start to growl or react to a new dog he meets, so he knows that behavior is not acceptable. It seems to be working. We are finding that he is getting along just fine with all the dogs in our rescue, although we are introducing him slowly to each one. So far so good and what we found is he does tolerate the females more than the males. We were told he was reactive to people and dogs, however we just walked him through Home Depot and he was very mellow. A gentleman even stopped to pat him. Like any other Aussie, Cooper needs a home where he can run as much as he wants. He doesn't play ball, but we are hoping to change that. We are also working on leash training him as he grew up wearing a harness. He is potty trained, However he does not like the crate at all. I'm not sure we will push the crate for him, because for his 1.5 years in his home he slept on his owners bed. He is very comfortable on the couch. The only anxiety we have seen from this boy is when the owners left him with us and he paced around confused. It's only been 24 hours and he has already settled in with us.
