About Stella

Meet Stella Stella is a happy, sweet, outgoing, fun-loving young pup. We rescued her from a high kill shelter and brought her to the safety of our no-kill shelter, where she is soaking up all the attention. Stella looks like a lab/beagle (or other hound mix). She is a year old, maybe a little younger, weighs 40 lbs. and has a gorgeous fawn colored coat. She is energetic and outgoing. Stella has not had a lot of attention paid to her previously. She could use some gentle training to help guide her puppy exuberance. Stella would do well with another active young dog in the home or with active people who like to walk, hike, or run and make it a priority to expend her energy. A fenced yard will be important so she can run and play in safety. Stella came in with Star and the two play so well together. Stella is dog friendly and likes people. She has a happy and curious demeanor. She is friendly, enthusiastic, and snuggly, but she is a girl on the go at this point in her young life. Everything is interesting and all of it is new. Stella travels well. She is learning to walk on a leash. Stella will do best with person or family who understands that young dogs need guidance and consistency. Stella learns quickly, but for all her young life she's had no one who cared enough to teach her, so she makes her own way. Every day our staff and volunteers work on her leash manners, give her consistency of schedule, and smother her in kindness and love. She absorbs it all and is blossoming. Stella is a keeper and a gem. We will test her with cats for prospective adopters. We adore this beautiful pup and know that she is going to make for a wonderful family companion. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
