About KOUKLA

LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY KOUKLA is a 9 year old, 13.8 pound Maltese who came to us to find a new home. Unfortunately her owner developed dementia and is unable to continue caring for her. KOUKLA is a sweet dog who takes a minute to warm up to a stranger. It is understandable as she was with her prior family her whole life. Once she knows you though, she is your best friend. She is very affectionate, loves her person, and wants to be with them all the time. Like many older dogs, she does not do well when she is startled by people or other dogs and if she picks something up that she can't have, you will need to distract her with something else to take it from her or your fingers may pay the price! KOUKLA is going to be best as an only dog, but may be ok in a home with another small calmer dog. She does not like other dogs in her face but her foster mom has caught her doing zoomies in the yard with two of her foster siblings. She should not go to a home with kids and cats are an unknown. Even though KOUKLA is an older dog, she has good energy. She would be happiest and best with a fenced yard. She does well with her potty training with a good routine. She does walk on a leash but she tends to want to go really fast! KOUKLA enjoys napping in the sun and at night she typically sleeps cuddled up next to her person. In her prior home we were told that sometimes she also chose to sleep under the bed. KOUKLA has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. Please remember to check your spam folder for any communication from our team. We adopt to homes within a 1-6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and some dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally.
