About Carl

Carl is 4 year old male neutered Rottweiler. He is a sweet dog who has been in AHeinz57 shetler in De Soto Iowa for a long time and is ready for a forever home or a foster home so he begin living his best life. He is in a shelter in central Iowa but transportation can be provided to anywhere within the adoption region. Carl is a striking boy with a classic Rottie look - big head, slim waist, and those deep, expressive eyes that tell a story all their own. He came to AHeinz as a stray, so his past is a bit of a mystery, but what we do know is that Carl thrives once he learns to trust. He can be a little cautious when meeting new people, especially men, but once he decides you're part of his circle, you'll see his goofy, loyal, and affectionate side shine through. In addition to being 'super-sweet' and a 'good, good boy' ( according to shelter staff), he is also smart and knows how to sit, lay down, and roll over (he is very food motivated and easy to train!) He is potty trained and not at all destructive with his toys or bed. Carl enjoys calm, one-on-one time with his people and truly blossoms in a predictable, low-stress environment. He's a smart, sensitive guy who appreciates when humans respect his signals - once he's comfortable, he loves gentle affection and routine companionship. To help him succeed, Carl will need: �'ۢ A secure 5-foot physical fence �'ۢ An adults-only home �'ۢ An experienced dog owner who understands how to give space, listen to his signals, and build trust �'ۢ He could do well with a calm female dog companion, given a proper introduction, but should avoid reactive dogs Carl has had some rough experiences in the past, so he'll do best with someone patient and understanding who can help him feel safe again. In return, Carl will give you his loyalty, his trust, and his heart.
