About Kody

Rehoming Our 2-Year-Old Bernese Mountain Dog - Experienced Home Needed (No Young Children) Kody is a (just turned)2-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog with lots of energy and a big heart. He loves going for walks, playing ball, and being close to his people. He's been wonderful with our small children, our other Bernese Mountain Dog, and our two cats. Over the past year, he's become my constant companion-always by my side and incredibly gentle with the kids. I had even considered having him trained as a therapy dog because of his sweet, attentive nature. However he does have some behavioral issues. When new people, animals or environments are introduced he becomes overly excited/anxious and all training disappears. He becomes very hard to control and does not understand social boundaries. (Rushes dogs/people in a non aggressive way) If he isn't able to greet the dog/person he becomes very anxious and will bark/pull on leash. We were quoted over $1,000 the training required) Kody has also recently developed some other behavioral changes. He's become increasingly anxious and has shown signs of aggression and dominance. He also bit my hand, which was very out of character for him. He is scheduled to be neutered soon, but this change in behavior/personality has left us unable to fully trust him-especially with young children in the home. Because of this, Kody is currently being kept safely in our mudroom with access to the outdoors while we look for a new home. He would do best in a calm, CHILD-FREE mood environment with an experienced handler who understands the breed and can help him work through his anxiety and regain confidence. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for us, as he truly is a loving, loyal dog. We just want to find the right home where he can thrive.
