About Brisa

Doberman Pinscher mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Brisa !! This beautiful pup came to us from a shelter. She was starved, terrified, and so shy. She has been doing so well in her foster home. She is learning that things aren't so scary after all. Brisa is a female Doberman mix. She is approx. 1 year old. She currently weighs approx 50 Pounds. She still have weight to gain back but is starting to fill out nicely. She has been spayed, microchipped and updated on vaccines already. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. Brisa has been great with other dogs. She is very shy and cautious at first and then over time wants to play. She has been around big and small dogs. We do not know how she would do with cats. We have not had her fostered with kids but think she would do well with older kids. She just needs time to adjust and feel safe. Respectful kids that can be calm and patient around her would be best. Overall her training has been pretty good so far. She is crate trained and does well once in it but makes you push her in there. She has been left uncrated in the kitchen and did well. She has only been on a few car rides with us but she did not get sick and behaved well. Her potty training has been great. She had some accidents on the first day while adjusting but has not had any since then. Brisa is still struggling with leash fear. It does not appear she had been on one prior to coming into the rescue. She does not flail around but is uncomfortable and needs a lot of coaxing to walk on it. For this reason she will need a fenced in yard in her new home. She is not going to do well with building trust or potty training if she has the constant leash fear issue pushed on her several times a day at the beginning. She will learn with time and consistency. She is extremely smart. Her breed is known for this. She loves toys and is learning how to play with people. She will need a family willing to keep her mind and body busy. She already has a medium to high energy level but we fully expect her to be much more energetic once she feels more confident. She is a dedicated squeaker finder and loves plush toys to destroy. She also loves to play with balls, sticks, or anything you can throw for her. So far she has not been enticed by shoes, furniture, or anything not considered hers. She is a big baby. Really likes to be outside. Listens and responds appropriately to 'no, stop, or wait'. Brisa loves to be glued to her people once she trusts you. This breed is extremely loyal and would love to never leave your side. Despite that she has done well staying home when her foster mom is at work. She has not shown any food, toy or treat aggression with humans or other dogs. She is very food motivated but does not beg. She loves the yak bones and will entertain herself for a long time when given one. Unfortunately, this breed has a stereotype of being aggressive or scary. By adopting one you need to understand this and ensure your Dobie is an ambassador for the breed and always well trained and under your control at all times. These dogs can be the absolute most loyal and loving family dogs you've ever owned. The way they turn out is largely based on the effort you put into them with training and socialization. If you're not fully willing and committed to do this then it's not the breed for you. These dogs are banned from almost all rentals (to include most vacation rentals) AND banned from many homeowners insurance policies. Do not apply to adopt if you have not called and verified with your landlord and/or insurance company that you can own one. Vet and home checks required. Fence yard required (5ft or higher on all sides) Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) '%BC%8FPlease message us directly at [email protected] with questions or to get an application.'%BC%8F
