About Benji

Lhasa Apso / Bulldog
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

BENJI IS NOT GOOD WITH KIDS, DOGS, CATS, AND AT FIRST NOT VERY GOOD WITH ADULTS. ** Meet Benji** Some rescue stories break your heart%BD'%BD| and then slowly stitch it back together again with hope. Benji's story is one of those. Benji is a small dog with a big spirit. At around 8 or 9 years old he's believed to be a lhasa apso or Cocker Spaniel mix. With his soulful eyes and mostly gentle demeanor, he has the kind of presence that makes you stop and feel something deeper - like he's trying to tell you a story without ever saying a word. When Benji first came into our home, we were absolutely devastated by what we saw. His tiny body was hidden beneath layers of filthy painfully tight matting - the kind that takes years to build up. The matting wasn't just uncomfortable; it was life-threatening. It was so thick and tangled that it had begun to tear into his skin. The pressure and tension had created deep sores - raw open wounds that covered much of his fragile little body. Every movement hurt. Every touch likely reminded him of pain. We rushed him to be shaved down immediately, and what we uncovered underneath was gut-wrenching. You could see just how long he'd suffered. But that wasn't all. When our vet examined him we got even more heartbreaking news - Benji was severely infested with both hookworms and tapeworms. The vet told us If we hadn't helped him when we did he wouldn't have survived another month. Can you imagine? This sweet quiet boy had been carrying that pain alone for who knows how long. The vet believes Benji had likely been neglected for years. Which means for the majority of his life he never knew the simple joys that every dog deserves - a soft bed a warm meal a loving touch. We later confirmed with the local pound and animal control that they had known about Benji and have had problems for his WHOLE life. But despite everything he's endured Benji still looks up at us with confused, scared but somewhat trusting eyes - like he wanted to believe that love could be real. And it is. Every day his me and my family remind him that he matters. That he is wanted. That his past does not define his future. He's learning what it feels like to curl up on a soft blanket without fear. He's learning that kind hands won't hurt him. He's learning to play to wag his tail and to walk with pride instead of fear. This sweet boy has faced abandonment now finding healing. Benji is still suffering from SEVERE PTSD and trauma. If he feels like someone is going to hurt him, he will get into defensive mode. He gets Triggered by things like brooms, vacuums, boots, loud noises, suddenly being grabbed, being hit, or anything that reminds him of being hurt. He's working through these, but needs someone who can give him a place to heal. And he needs someone who is and EXPERIENCED dog owner with trauma and special needs dogs He's known fear. He's known hunger. He's known what it's like to be forgotten. But he's never known forever. That's where you come in. Benji waiting patiently for his miracle - for someone to say 'You're home now. You're safe. You're loved.' He is eager to start the next chapter of his journey - one filled with belly rubs long walks and the quiet comfort of being exactly where he belongs. Please if you have space in your home and love in your heart consider giving Benji the forever family he's waited so long for. Even if you can't adopt sharing his story might lead him to a forever home. Benji is more than just a rescue dog. Benji's story is a testament to the power of love resilience and second chances. Be the ending to his story. Be his beginning.
