About Amalia

Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Sisters Amalia and Azalea are in search of a soft place to land. Amalia and Azalea, two sweet sisters, are in search of a loving place to call home. As puppies, they were abandoned in the woods by someone lacking compassion. Fortunately, a caring elderly couple found them just in time and provided them with the love and care they desperately needed over the past year. Sadly, the couple is now facing serious medical challenges, which have led them to seek a new home for these lovely sisters. We are actively reaching out to local herding breed groups to find someone willing to offer them a lifelong commitment. We believe they may be Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mixes. About the Sisters Amalia is the more outgoing sister, while Azalea tends to follow her lead. Both are gentle and friendly. These sisters enjoy playing, chasing toys, and running freely in their fenced yard. They walk well on a leash together, although their owners have mentioned they can be a bit strong at times. During our evaluation, we found that both girls are highly treat-motivated and walked gently beside us, focused on the treats! They have already learned to 'sit' with enthusiasm, accepting treats ever so gently. When their owners have medical appointments, the sisters are crated, which is also where they eat their home-cooked meals. We observed that, given their activity level and age, their calorie intake should be increased to help them gain a little weight. They showed curiosity but remained calm when introduced to our 'test' dogs (one small breed and one large breed) on a leash, walking alongside them effortlessly without any prey drive noted. We did not evaluate them off-leash. Amalia and Azalea love car rides and load and unload with ease. We can envision them as perfect partners for outdoor activities and potentially training for canine sports like agility, dock diving, and more! The owners estimate they are under a year old, meaning they have a bright future ahead. While it is not essential for them to be rehomed together, their owners hope this will be the case, as Azalea relies on Amalia for confidence in new situations. If they must be separated, Azalea will need to be placed with another confident dog. The decision to find a new home for these sisters has undoubtedly been difficult for their current owners, who love them dearly. The bond formed after rescuing them from the woods that day was palpable to us during our visit. How You Can Help We kindly ask you to share their story and photos with anyone you know. Experience with herding breeds is a plus but not required. They would do best in a home which understands their need to keep their minds and bodies engaged with stimulating activities. Of course, above all. love care and compassion are the most important of all! Amalia and Azalea are up to date on all vaccinations and will be spayed the week of October 27th 2025. They currently reside in the Clark County, Virginia area. We will assist with transportation of up to 4 hours from this location and even farther if placement is found in the North Carolina region. Thank you for taking the time to read about Amalia and Azalea. Please reach out if you have questions or are interested in adopting one or both of these sisters.
