About RIVER

RIVER is a 5-month-old, 7.5 pound Maltese-Yorkie mix who is all puppy, all the time. This cute little guy was surrendered to find a new family to love. RIVER is sweet, playful, and always ready for adventure! He loves cuddle time with his people, but once he's recharged, he's off again to explore and play. He can be a bit barky when meeting new people, but he quickly warms up and is soon soaking up attention and cuddles from his new friends. He does have some anxiety when his foster mom leaves, so a home where he won't be left alone for long stretches will make him happiest. Like many puppies, RIVER is still learning what's okay to chew and what isn't. He may chew cords or shoes, drag clothes around, tear up potty pads, or climb on tables like a baby goat. But he's eager to please and responds well to gentle correction and redirection. RIVER would thrive in a home with another small, playful dog to wrestle and romp with. He loves playing with other pups and is learning to enjoy toys like stuffies and balls. He'd also do well with older, respectful children (cats are unknown). RIVER is making good progress with potty training but still has occasional accidents. Routine, consistency, and positive reinforcement will help him improve. He isn't leash trained yet, and a fenced yard is preferred to give him room to run and play safely. RIVER has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, has been started on heartworm prevention, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
