About Rusty

This is Rusty, or Rusty-Butt as we affectionately call him. He is a 14-month-old Cattle Dog Border Collie mix with a dark coat with 'rust marks' across his fur, which is where he derives his name. He and his litter were rescued by us as individuals on May 23rd of 2025, two days after his birth, as the previous owner was unsure of what to do and was considering putting them and their mother down. Since the 23rd of May, we have shown them unconditional love, and they have all been vetted and are up to date on vaccinations. Rusty is a lover and loves belly rubs. Rusty loves the sound of whistling and regular Cheerios. Rusty weighs about 65-70 pounds. He is a super loyal dog once he likes somebody. Rusty will need a fenced-in yard and will excel with people who have lots of love to give. I'm not 100% certain how perfectly house-trained he is, as he lives in a climate-controlled kennel we made from part of our garage, but he and his brother both always alert us when they have to go outside to go to the bathroom and neither has had any accident in several months, even being home alone for 4-5 hours while we ran errands. Rusty is not crate trained, but his brother Squiggy is and does very well. The reason dog compatibility unknown is selected is for two reasons; 1: that at events, Rusty does like to bark at other dogs until they get close, and then he wants to play. 2: Just today (August 3rd at time of writing) after Squiggy was returned to us after his new owner had a health complication and was unable to keep him, Squiggy and Rusty have not gotten along, and as such have been kept separate. Neither dog has shown attitude to any of our other dogs, just each other unfortunately. He absolutely cannot stand cats, despite us trying to warm him up to our cats when he was young. His brother Squiggy is another fantastic dog if you are interested. Rusty and Squiggy's other brother, Spike, whom we are keeping, has had a DNA panel done via Embark, and his breakdown goes as follows; 44.4% Australian Cattle Dog, 25.5% Border Collie, 10.4% Supermutt made up of Collie, Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever, 9.4% Australian Cattle Dog, 6% Chow Chow, and 4.3% German Shepherd. So both Rusty and Squiggy likely have very similar percentages.
