About Rusty

This is Rusty, or Rusty-Butt as he is affectionately known. He is a 42-week-old Cattle Dog Border Collie mix with a dark coat with 'rust marks' across his fur. He and his litter were rescued by us as individuals on May 23rd, two days after his birth, as the previous owner was unsure of what to do and was considering putting them and their mother down. Since the 23rd of May, we have shown them unconditional love, and they have all been vetted and are up to date on vaccinations. Rusty is a lover and loves belly rubs. Rusty loves the sound of whistling and regular Cheerios. Rusty weighed 65 pounds at 40 weeks and is likely to get to be about 80-90 pounds. Rusty will excel in a home with a fenced-in yard and people who have lots of love to give. I'm not 100% certain how perfectly house-trained he is, as he lives in a climate-controlled kennel we constructed from part of our garage, but he and his brother both always alert us when they have to go outside to go to the bathroom and neither has had any accident for well over 6 weeks, even being home for 4-5 hours while we ran errands. His brother Squiggy is another great dog if you want to look at him. Rusty and Squiggy's other brother, Spike, whom we are keeping, has had a DNA panel done via Embark, and his breakdown goes 44.4% Australian Cattle Dog, 25.5% Border Collie, 10.4% Supermutt (Collie, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever), 9.4% Australian Cattle Dog, 6% Chow Chow, and 4.3% German Shepherd. So both likely have very similar percentages.
