He's short; he's long; he's ready for his forever family! River is an approximately 1 year-old, 20-lb dachshund/terrier mix. He was found as a stray in New Mexico where no one came looking for him. He's sweet and loving and cuddly with humans and dog-friendly. He has not been tested with cats or kids but would probably be ok with respectful kids 10+. He has a strong prey-drive and has caught squirrels so cats may not be a good fit for him. He is house-trained and knows how to use a doggy door when humans are home to supervise him. He is still figuring out leash-walking and sometimes stops walking altogether until he can be coaxed to continue. Since he doesn't yet potty on leashed walks, he requires a secure, fenced yard in his new home. He will allow himself to be put in a crate when left home alone and does not potty in his crate. River will do best with someone home most of the time as he can be destructive when left alone uncrated, chewing on shoes and furniture. When his people are home, he only chews on his dog toys. He sleeps through the night either on his doggy bed or at the foot of the big people bed. If you are interested in meeting River the first step is to complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms We require the application, home and reference check and meet with everyone in the home. River is neutered, UTD on vaccs, chipped, and HW-. His adoption fee is $400 and we do not adopt outside of Colorado.
