About Journey

Adoption Fee: $200
Poodle
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Journey! She is the absolute perfect dog, and I would keep her if I weren't heading off to college in a year. We took her in as a foster dog when she was 9 months old. She came from an abusive home where she lived in a tiny house with 6 cats and two other dogs. She only felt safe in her kennel and would bolt out the back door every morning when we let her out. She wouldn't get within 20 feet of us for about two weeks. After months of socialization, training, and love, she is a completely different dog. She is the sweetest, gentlest, and smartest dog we have ever known. She knows: sit, shake, down, come, kennel, middle (sit between your legs), middle down (lay down between your legs), spin, circle (go around you), back up, heel, free (go through a door), fetch, tea time (go potty), get your toy, off, stay, etc. We also taught her to interrupt anxious behavior, such as rubbing your hands together, by bumping you with her nose. She is great with dogs, cats, bunnies, kids, men, and women. She is a great hiking, running, walking, and biking companion but knows when to settle down. She is completely house and kennel trained and is incredibly well-behaved. She is an awesome car traveler and will sleep from start to finish. She will bark at the door/when someone is on the property, but she quiets down when her family tells her to. She does not have any bad habits. She doesn't counter-surf, run away, chew, dig, steal trash, resource guard, pull on her leash, bark excessively, or get on furniture (unless invited). She is a beautiful dog at about 45 lbs, with her ticked black and white parti coloration. She constantly gets stopped for compliments on outings! Journey is great at being brushed and groomed and will often take a nap throughout the process. She does seem to have a bad association with people handling her paws, from her previous home. She doesn't do anything other than try to pull her paws away. She has never growled, snapped, or barked aggressively. She is just incredibly loyal to and protective of her family. Journey is amazing in stores and public spaces. She has high potential to be a service or therapy dog. She is AKC registered. We have a picture of her AKC paperwork and found her parents on the AKC website, but we were not able to get the original paper documents from her family, as they dropped off the radar after sending the picture. She has no known health issues, is on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention, and is up-to-date on vaccinations. She loves eggs, pumpkin, and chicken as treats, but we found that she actually learns best with encouragement and praise. She loves to play fetch and prefers stuffed toys to bones and balls. She is not yet spayed, as we have been waiting until after her 2nd heat, so that her growth plates will close properly. She will come with her food and water bowls, kennel, blanket, starter food, collar/leash, treats, and toys. I am devastated to have to rehome her, and this has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make, so I will be extremely picky regarding her new home. Please provide a full description of what her life, home, and family would look like with you. We will not provide her AKC paperwork until we have proof that she has been spayed. We have spent the last 6 months focusing on her and helping her become the perfect dog. We already have thousands of dollars put into her initial rehoming fee, supplies, and care. We are asking a rehoming fee which reflects Journey's exceptional training, vet care, temperament, supplies, and the extensive care we've invested in her. We're not in a rush, and our priority is finding the absolute best possible fit. We will only consider adopters who can offer her a loving, stable, and active life. If you feel that you would be Journey's perfect home, please reach out, and I can't wait to hear from you! Thank you for reading! (rehoming fee is $$$$)
