As I sit here writing this, my heart is breaking, but I'm hoping there is a home out there that can give my boy a good home so that we don't have to consider behavioral euthanasia. This is Spyder, he is an approximately 3.5 year old, 92lb, high energy Labrador Retriever Mix (according to his DNA test, he is 70% Labrador Retriever and then the rest is split between Australian Cattle Dog and Great Pyrenees). I purchased him last July from a trainer in Texas to be my working dog, but sadly he has shown that he is unable to perform in that capacity and I am now heartbreakingly forced to either find him a new home or do a behavioral euthanasia because he has two undocumented bites. He has shows a distrust of 65+year old white men and elderly people and people with strange walking gaits. His ideal new home will be a woman or couple who are active (hiking would be amazing!), and somewhere he will not have interaction with those 65+, especially 65+ white men. Spyder is a very active, high energy boy who likes having things to do. He prefers a consistent routine, which in our home looked like 4x walks per day (2 longer, 2 shorter - we don't have a fenced yard), around 4 play and/or training or working sessions per day, and eating twice per day in a puzzle feeder or a slow feed bowl. He enjoys having a large dog sibling but has a forward and rowdy play style that doesn't work for many dogs so he isn't going to be successful at a dog park. He'd be ok with a dog friend at home with a careful introduction from an experienced dog owner and a slow introduction to having shared toys (because he resource guards). He has to be fed separately, no exceptions. He doesn't do well with our cats, as he constantly wants to chase them. I'm asking a small rehoming fee and we will require meeting you in your home environment to make sure he can be set up for success. It's fine if you don't live in a fancy place - we live in a mobile home - but be aware that since he has a big loud bark it might be hard if you live in an apartment that won't be understanding of the noise. We'll provide some food to help you transition if needed (he is currently eating Wholesomes Chicken and Rice kibble, which can be found at Tractor Supply), as well as any remaining Heartguard Plus we have. Veterinary records will be provided as well. He is currently up to date on all important vaccinations, including rabies, bordetella, etc. He has been trained to wear shoes and while he doesn't love them he tolerates them just fine, so I'll include a pair of shoes as well (he likes WagWellies the best, he wears an XL) and can show you how to put them on if you are interested so that you have a way to protect his paws from extreme pavement temperatures if needed. I also began training him to accept a muzzle (originally just to help prevent all the lizard killing!), he's not super used to it yet but could probably adapt ok going forward which will be helpful for things like vet visits, and I could include his muzzle as well. Please, someone help me give him the life he needs so I don't have to put him down! I am happy to provide more details if needed.
