Courtesy Posting: Houston, TX (some transport may be available to qualified homes or fosters) HEARTBREAKING SITUATION, UNBELIEVABLY SWEET CHOWS 'BELLA' AND 'ASH' DUMPED AND LEFT TO STARVE, TRAPPED IN A FENCED YARD! EACH DOES WELL W/ OTHER DOGS and LOVING TO PEOPLE WHILE A GOOD SAMARITAN HAS SINCE GOTTEN THEM OUT OF THERE AND PROVIDED EMERGENCY MEDICAL, THEY CANNOT HOLD MUCH LONGER, NOR WANT TO BRING THEM TO HIGH KILL BARC SHELTER WHERE THEY WILL LIKELY BE KILLED. AN ADOPTER/FOSTER FOR ONE OR BOTH DOGS (THEY DO WELL APART, AS WELL AS TOGETHER) ARE NOW NEEDED, AS WELL AS PLEDGES TO ATTRACT A RESCUE, AND OR HELP PAY FOR BELLA'S EMERGENCY SURGERY SHE ALREADY HAD TO SAVE HER LIFE (GOOD SAM HAS TO PAY BILL) We were contacted by a good Samaritan on 9/1 after seeing a black chow caught in a fenced industrial yard without access to food or water, and in scorching summer heat. Food and water were brought, and after a week, the good Samaritan was able to secure the male who is described as 'very calm' and was fondly named 'Ash'. However, a second and much smaller black chow or chow mix was also there, but ran away. Again, the good sam returned to help, leaving food and water until this female chow could be secured. She has been fondly named 'Bella', is only 21 lbs and estimated by the vet to be 1 -2 years old. Ash is estimated to be be 3-5 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Sadly but not surprisingly, no owner came forward nor responded to or registered the chip. Given these chows would likely be euthanized in a very full and high kill BARC shelter, we are desperately looking for fosters for one or both to attract rescue interest, or better yet, an adopter for either or both. The good sam cannot hold the dogs much longer, but they are now both fixed and vaccinated, have run their stray holds, and thus can be rehomed or go to a rescue. Most rescues need a foster for one or both to help though. While continuing to look for a rescue over the past few weeks, please note little Bella became very ill and was rushed to the ER. She ended up having pyometra (a condition caused by lack of spaying that is fatal if not treated immediately) and had emergency surgery and hysterectomy to save her life. She is therefore now spayed and recovering thankfully well. Ash was found neutered previously. %BCThe vet bill is approximately $1500 so if there are any kind people would like to help pay for some of the medical already incurred, or can donate to a reputable rescue to help, please also let us know. Both dogs are good with one another, but did fine when separated and on their own while Bella was recovering from her surgery. They have also done well with a 5 lb female dog in the finder's home, as well when they see other dogs on walks. Bella has been in this home now for weeks and is described as 'loves being the center of attention. She takes to her owner. She is very loyal to her owner and the family. She does well walking in stores and out in parks or neighborhoods. She has to be properly introduced to new guest. Once she is introduced she stops huffing. Bella is a cuddle bug and wants all the attention. She gets along with other dogs but gets jealous if they get affection (with the exception of her brother Ash). (We are working on this). Bella has had pyometra surgery and has recovered well. Other than that she is very healthy and has a big appetite. Bella is potty trained and loves being indoors. She likes being outdoors for 1hr tops during the afternoons.' Ash has now been in this home a month and is also described as 'takes to his owner. He is very loyal to his owner and the family. He does well walking in stores and out in parks or neighborhoods. In his personal space (home) he tends to guard more so he does bark when looking out the window and he has to be properly introduced to new guest. Once he is introduced he stops huffing and won't bark at them. His bark is loud but he's just protecting his space and family. He has hotspots. He tends to be stubborn and very independent but listens to his owner and reassuring safety while in vet offices does help calm him down. He has recently been prescribed medicine to help calm him before a vet visit and possibly help for grooming sessions. Ash is potty trained and likes being indoors with freedom to go in and out. Avoid leaving him out during hot days.' Most importantly, both dogs need a loving, patient and forever home for each or both that they so deserve, or a foster and or rescue asap given the good Samaritan cannot hold much longer.
