About Smokey

Smokey is a one and half year old pitbull mix who is excitable and cuddly and absolutely loves people! He's a big fan of chew toys (any and all but durable ones work better for him) and tug of war. Smokey has a clingy, cuddly, excitable personality and enjoys being around people more than anything. He does get a fair amount of zoomies where he'll be knocking around the house and loves chew toys. He also gets super excited when he meets new people and sees other dogs on his walks. He does have a certain level of reactivity where he will try to lunge at other dogs when he sees them because he gets really excited and that's sort of his way of engaging play. Smokey enjoys chew toys, tug of war, and playing chase. Smokey would thrive in a home without cats/small animals and with older kids or adults as his clumsy high energy zoomies could knock down a smaller child. He also would benefit from having a fenced yard to get out some of his energy when he's having his bouts of zoomies and to play fetch and chase in. Smokey is trained in basic commands and semi-housebroken (he pees sometimes when's excited/nervous). On walks, he tends to pull on the leash when he wants to go see/smell something. He also has a tendency to lunge at other dogs when he sees them on walks in excitement and he is about 70lbs, so it'd be best for whoever walks him to be able to pull him back if needed. He is also crate-trained but gets lonely if he's left is his crate for too long. Smokey is up to date on all of his vaccinations but does have a deformity in his right front leg. We are currently looking to book him an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon at the recommendation of his usual vet to correct his foot deformity to improve his quality of life. Depending on what stage of his medical care gets adopted at, he will need a certain degree of medical attention and care on the owner's part. He also has a somewhat sensitive stomach and is prone to diarrhea.
