Toby is a very handsome fellow whose owner passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving behind her beloved dog. Family members are unable to keep him, so a distant relative who loves animals is doing her best to help him find rescue / a new home. Name: Toby Age: DOB December 2018 Breed: German Shepherd Mix (71 pounds) Sex: Male (neutered per contact) Location: Barrow County GA Vet Info: Toby is neutered per his contact. She also tells us he is current with vaccines and heartworm negative (heartworm test 10/2024 confirms negative test). Toby appears completely blind and the humane society said he was likely blind from birth. It appears he can detect shadows. Dog Info: Toby is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is housebroken and leash trained, and knows several commands including, Sit, Gentle, Stay, Down, Potty, and Outside. Toby is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped. He will bark at new people when they enter the home. We're told he was never brought around other dogs. Toby's contact feels he adapts well to new situations and writes, 'he learns quickly to get around and has a great sense of smell'. Toby's contact also gave more details about this sweet boy: He's a very loving and loyal boy who has ended up in an unfortunate situation. His owner/ best friend passed away. He cannot go to a shelter because he's BLIND. Can you imagine wondering why your best friend disappeared and then ending up in a horribly crowded, scary, and loud shelter? Toby takes a little while to warm up to new people, since he recognizes by smells, but once he does, he'll steal your heart. He's very sweet and loves affection. He doesn't like hearing people yell (it likely scares/affects him so much more than a dog who isn't blind). If he hears people speaking too loudly, he thinks they're fighting. His human-grandma is still processing the loss of her daughter, and while she isn't able to keep Toby, she wants to make sure he goes to a deserving home that will give him the love and safety he deserves. She says he will be someone's best companion and that if Toby is okay, she will also be okay. After Toby eats, he goes outside to potty, then comes in to take a nap. He enjoys being wherever it's cool, since he has so much fur. While he lived as an only dog, it doesn't mean that he wouldn't do well with a sibling. Slow introductions would be needed for this sweet boy to be able to adjust to his new normal.' **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
