About Pipken

Meet Pipken !! This boys owners surrendered him at the shelter right as we were picking up another dog. The shelter asked us to take him so he didn't have to stay there and we did. He is a sweet boy and ready to find a great home. Pipken is an approx. 1 year old male Maltese mix. He weighs 8 pounds and is full grown. He will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of his adoption. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. He was pretty overgrown and smelly. Thanks to Donna Helene he got shaved down and cleaned up. This guy is a bit of an oddball. He is very happy go lucky but we wouldn't say he is the smartest dog we have ever had here. He can be annoying to other dogs. He doesn't always understand if another dog doesn't want him in their personal space. He has been told off by a few dogs and then just goes right back over to say hi again�'�|. Poor guy just doesn't get it. With a tolerant dog that doesn't mind this he does well. He has never reacted badly to another dog correcting him, he just seems confused. Pipken is also a spinner. He will do lots of turns when excited and can be a little hard to pick up when he is spinning and you are trying to grab him. He is also a dog that is under your feet a lot. He doesn't always get the cause and effect of things like being tripped over or stepped on. He would not do well with someone that has mobility issues. He tries his best with training. He is leash trained but you have to keep the leash from getting tangled when he does his excited spins. He is great on car rides. He rode in the crate and was quiet and did not get sick. He is crate trained and does well with it. He is somewhat potty trained. He has had a few accidents and will try marking his territory inside. Hopefully his upcoming neuter will help with that. Pipken has a medium energy level. He can be a busy little guy at times. He will run around the yard and explore. He also has a chill and relaxed side if he's cuddling. He has not shown any issues with people or other dogs about sharing his food, treats or toys. Pipken is a sweet boy. If you don't mind a busy little guy and have no dogs or tolerant dogs then he may be the one! �'�%BC��%8F��|��%8FHe will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks.
