Bruno was on a chain in the back of his previous owner's yard for his entire life. He had never been to the vet when I acquired him about two months ago. He was dying. I took him to the emergency vet and found out he was dying from heart failure and heartworms. He currently is getting heartworm treatment. Because of the severity of his heartworms, they likely caused permanent heart and lung damage. His medication is $250 per month and it's very important that he continues to get this medication. He now has received his vaccinations, dewormer, flee/tick medication, a bloodwork panel and will be heartworm negative after finishing his treatment. He will also be neutered after finishing his treatment. He was terrified of everything initially. He is warming up now nicely. He will get in the car, sit, is fully potty trained, will walk on the leash, will wear a muzzle for vet appointments and listens well. He is not good with other dogs or children, but he is good with adults. He does have to be gently guided as he is still not completely used to human interaction and can be reactive if he feels threatened. He is not aggressive but can be reactive. This reactivity is becoming less and less as he learns he is safe now. He needs someone that will allow him to be freely in the house and will give him lots of care, patience, attention and love. He also needs a backyard with a fence where he can run freely and play. He is a big 7-year-old boy and around 80 pounds. He will likely gain weight after his heartworm treatment completes. He is a very sweet soul and has had a hard life. He can not stay at my home because I have a two year old daughter and a 14 year old senior dog. It's not safe for them to be around him. My grandmother with dementia also lives with me full time and that takes significant time. He is in need of a wonderful forever home.
