Courtesy Posting: EMERGENCY!!! CODE RED AT WOODLAND, CA IN N CAL (NW of SACRAMENTO)- Yolo County Animal Services - ID #A218116 - RESCUE ONLY - NEEDS FOSTER(s) TOO - 'OTIS ' a handsome, but neglected 43 lb male chow who had been dumped and roaming ina remote area for weeks NOW ON DEADLINE FOR 10/6 AT 4 PM OR WILL BE SADLY EUTHANIZED. WE NEED A CHOW SAVVY FOSTER AND RESCUE TO SAVE HIM IN TIME. Emergency/soon to be euthanized! We are in urgent need of finding a chow or similar breed savvy foster and rescue to save poor Otis. Per the Yolo shelter who reached out for help. they said, ' Otis found his way to our shelter after running loose for almost 3 weeks. Otis, being very clever, eluded our animal services officers on numerous occasions, ignoring our efforts in placing dog traps and was finally captured via the use of tranquilization.' We understand from those originally contacted, 'People who saw him roaming for a while said he was friendly with them and their dogs.' The shelter also stated 'Since intake, Otis is very fearful, growls and barks at staff passing by his kennel. Otis will run up to the kennel, and growl/bark when attempting to offer treats. Otis requires either handling via catch pole or being walked through, using metal gates, to an adjacent kennel. Otis cannot safely be handled by staff or DVM staff. We have not been able to age Otis, although we can tell he is an adult. Otis came to our shelter in a very matted condition, poorly kept condition. Otis has been placed on Gabapentin and Trazodone in efforts to aid his anxiety. Otis is in need of a Chow savvy rescue group to help him feel at ease. If you can help Otis, please let us know by 4pm on 10/02/2025.' Since then, however, Otis has had improved behavior as seen in videos sent 10/2, and the shelter has given an extension to 10/6 at 4 pm. We will post these videos on Facebook. You can also see how badly he he is matted and was clearly neglected. This poor boy deserves a chance at life and love. If there is a savvy foster who may be able to help, or anyone local who can go visit him, or can help in any other way, please email: [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who is trying to find placement asap before he is killed.
