Courtesy Posting: URGENT or will be PTS- FENTON, MICHIGAN (NR/N of ANN ARBOR)- BEAUTIFUL, PETITE AND SPAYED FEMALE CHOW 'IVANKA' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME ASAP W/ BREED EXPERIENCE/PRIOR OWNERSHIP, owner cannot keep much longer, they just let us know they will have to euthanize her on 10/30 if no home or rescue is found by then. Please no negative comments as the focus has to be on finding Ivanka placement, and we are Not the owner. Please help us find a loving, chow savvy home for adorable Ivanka, an approximate 3.75 yr, 42 lb chow girl so she is perfectly sized. We were contacted to assist with her placement due to this urgent situation as the dogs in this home are not getting along, in addition to a grandbaby now living in the home who is allergic. As the owner has been looking for a home or rescue for a while, they just notified us if no placement is found before 10/30, she will sadly be euthanized then. The owner reports, 'Ivanka is an affectionate dog and listens better than our other chow. Ivanka loves belly rubs! She has a large fenced in back yard she plays in. She loves it outside! She is fully potty trained. I have worked with a trainer for 5-6 classes. Since the baby came I honestly have not had the time to work with Ivanka. She will sit, doesn't jump on me and requires a special lead I bought if you want to go on a walk. Ivanka pretty much likes to eat, sleep and watch TV when inside. I have the house gated for the baby and prior to this Ivanka would follow me around the house. Ivanka has no problem with me taking food away from her or giving her food. Ivanka is allergic to chicken and I give her Allergy Relief immune chews that I buy on Amazon. She is fed Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Salmon and sweet potato dry dog food. For treats she's given sweet potato. We give her Greenies for dental health. She saw the vet, Dr Chris, in April and was given a clean bill of health. She will be 4 years in December. Ivanka does well with the female groomer. The other groomers seem afraid of her but Layla has not had issues. Our vet has seen Ivanka several times and only recently has muzzled Ivanka after being bitten in the face by a dog he was seeing (not Ivanka). We are an all female household. I believe Ivanka would do best in a female home, with no young children and no other pets. Ivanka is crate trained for when we are gone for a long day trip. She does fine.' The owner provided nice video of Ivanka enjoying being pet and showing she has no food resource guarding with her. However, the owner further explained the main reasons for rehoming is that, 'My granddaughter and daughter live with me and the baby is allergic to dogs. More importantly Ivanka is unpredictable. She'll be great with the shih-tzu for a period of time and then will pin her to the floor for unknown reasons. Further when we purchased Ivanka we also bought her sister Lydia. About two years ago, out of the blue, Ivanka would start fights with her sister. We now have to keep them separate. Ivanka is food aggressive so all three dogs have been fed separately for years now.' Additionally, while the owner reports no bites to humans, she said Ivanka has gone after cats and other critters in the yard and seems to have a strong prey drive towards them as she has killed some. Ivanka rarely ever takes walks, but it is recommended she use a basket muzzle and a martingale collar when on such. If you are breed savvy and are interested in meeting and adopting Ivanka, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with her placement. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior chows, and a signed adoption contract. A $100 rehoming fee is requested.
