Max is a two year old border collie/lab mix (we think) that is high energy, intelligent, and food motivated. Max is the perfect friend/companion 98% of the time, but likely due to his previous/unknown history, max has traumatic triggers that send him into aggressive episodes that can be challenging to snap him out of. He has had multiple bites/nips, mostly against woman during these aggressive outbursts. Common triggers include petting from behind, blocking the dogs intended pathway (mostly when trying to escape out the front door), and approaching him while he sleeps/while in his kennel. We hoped in the little over a year of owning max we could work on his behavior and with time, max would improve on his own. It is to the point now my family is scared of being alone with him as his triggers can be subtle and has drawn blood before. Most shelters in the area won't take him with his biting history. We are looking for an owner who understands dog behavior and is comfortable working with max and his triggers. He has also had one episode of biting another dog but is fantastic with our second dog and is usually great with other dogs at the dog park. Again, 98% of the time max would be a fantastic family pet, but we are running out of options as we can no longer safely keep max in our current situation. Thanks!
