Meet Sam! Sweet Sam's owner has a rare progressive worsening disability (SPG7) - and his mobility is restricted for the most part. The disease has no cure. Sadly, this requires him to find a new home for his beloved pet. Friends and neighbors have been taking turns fostering Sam, but the situation is not sustainable. Please turn this sad story into a Godsend for both Sam and his hooman. Sam was adopted from a shelter when he was (approx.) 2 years old, making him around 7-8 now. He is a 45-50 lbs Shepherd mix - a quiet shadow companion who only gets (slightly) vocal if you are late with his meals or get distracted while petting him. He walks very well on a leash and is always excited about going out. Sam is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all his vaccines. Though he gets along well with smaller dogs and female dogs, Sam will flourish most with experienced pet-owners and a home that he does not have to share with other pets; Someone who can comfort him during terrifying thunderstorms and calm him when he gets overly concerned with loud noise (eg garbage trucks and lawn mowers). Sam has been in a foster home for the past 2 months and is doing amazingly well with learning to sit and stay and ignore all distractions on his walks. He presently lives in the Gaithersburg, MD area. His foster-mom will be traveling frequently for extended periods of 4-6 months/year. If anyone is willing to co-foster this adorable boy, that too is an option.
