Slate is a special pup!! If you are looking for a snuggle buddy, Slate is your guy. He is a master cuddler and will lay in your lap or curled around your feet for hours at a time. He'll follow his person around the yard and sit patiently if the person stops. Doesn't matter how many laps you take around the yard, he's always by your side. He's curious about birds, prances after toys and he enjoys a good game of fetch. Life is full of changes for Slate and he is a little timid. When you first meet Slate it will take him a little while to warm up and then he will be your cuddle buddy. When he is unfamiliar with new experiences and new environments it will take him a while to realize he is safe. This special pup is gentle, afectionate, playful and calm. Slate just needs the right family with patience and love and realizes he needs time to adjust. Slate is doing good in his foster home and it's nice to see the progress he is making. He is learning the world is not so scary. In his foster home, when he encounters something new, he hurries to curl around your legs and peek out from behind them or he will just stop and sit. Slate is polite, subservient and respectful of other dogs. He follows his foster dog sister around and watches very carefully everything she does. He lays down and waits patiently for his bowl of food to be put down. When people are eating, he curls around your feet at the table, content with a few words of praise. Just every stinking thing he does is cute! Slate has a cute pounce and hop when he plays. He can actually stand up and balance on his two hind legs. He's still a little floppy and wobbly on his feet sometimes and gets so excited while fetching that he slides into things and then pops up with a surprised look on his face. Slate often crosses his paws when he lays down and his whole body wiggles when he's happy to see you. He likes to rest his head and paw on your lap. One by one, Slate gathers the toys and bones he likes and brings them to his bed or wherever he happens to lay down. And periodically he adds my shoes to the pile, or carries them one at a time to his crate to lay with them. I haven't caught him chewing on them, just swiping them when I don't pay attention to him. (I'm pretty sure they'd end up chewed if I let him keep them though so on principle I take them back). Slate has slept silently and peacefully in his crate all night long every night. He is doing really great with house training. He doesn't vocalize, but he does go right to the door when he needs to go out. Whoever adopts Slate should realize that he is timid and needs patience to acclimatize to his new home and experiences. Slate needs time to adjust and needs someone who will help him build his confidence. But once he is settled in his furever home, he will make a great, loyal friend. I am sure there is someone out there that sees how special and deserving our sweet Slate is and wants to spoil him rotten. This pup is sweet spirited, has a gentle temperament and is low to medium energy. He for sure will be your best friend if you give him the chance. Slate is about 4-5 months old and very handsome! If you have a furever home for this pet, please e-mail us at: [email protected] Slate was rescued along with his siblings from an overpopulated shelter in Mississippi and trannsport to NJ to live in a foster home. The breed and age of this pet is listed as is our best guess. We have no background info on who the mom and dad are. Please note we do not adopt puppies/dogs to homes where they will be left alone all day. We do not have a shelter facility you can visit. Our volunteers foster the dogs and pups in their homes once they have been vetted and transported here to NJ. Please read our homepage to read how the adoption process works.
