About Ilo

This is Ilo, a 5 year old Belgian Shepherd mix. Unfortunately, Ilo's owner has recently been admitted to the hospital and will be moving into a permanent care facility. This means that Ilo is in urgent need of a new home, as there will soon be no one to care for him. Ilo is very energetic and playful. He loves playing tug of war, running, and hiking. He would be a great dog for a person with a lot of space and an active, outdoor lifestyle. Unfortunately, due to his owner's circumstances, Ilo has not had the best home life over the past few years. He has not been getting the exercise and attention he needs, and has spent a lot of time confined while medical personnel assist his owner at home. Ilo is also a rescue, and has had issues with strangers entering his home in the past, including nipping and growling. He is also very anxious and frequently barks when people or other dogs come near his house. He also tends to pull a lot while walking on the leash. Fortunately, these difficulties only seem to be present when he is at home, as there have never been any problems at the dog park, vet, or groomer. Ilo has had knee replacement surgery on both of his back legs, but the surgeries were both successful with no complications. He has also been prone to digestive issues, but has been placed on a low-fat diet, which has alleviated that issue as well. Ilo is highly intelligent and trainable. He knows many commands, has excellent recall, and is very food motivated. Ilo is also 100% house-trained and has only had one accident in his entire life, which happened when he was on heavy post-surgery drugs. Many of the issues that Ilo has can be reduced or eliminated with adequate training and regular exercise, neither of which he has had access to in his previous home. An experienced and motivated owner could make a huge difference in this dog's life.
